Health and safety officer Steve Tubbs has received top honours from Hampshire construction group Raymond Brown for a devoted 36 years’ service to the business.

Joining the company in 1976 at the age of 18, Steve, now 54, has excelled in a number of roles across the Raymond Brown Group. Today he holds the post of health and safety adviser for the Minerals & Recycling branch of the business, based in Nursling, Southampton.

The dad-of-two began his career as a trainee plant operator and spent the next two decades mastering his skills across an extensive range of equipment. Even before joining the payroll Steve was well-known to the team thanks to his father who had worked for Raymond Brown for a number of years as a HGV driver.

In 1998 Steve was appointed general foreman, a role he held for the next four years. It was then he made his move into the health and safety world, working his way up to H&S officer for the entire group and its 300 staff.

On receiving his award Steve said: “I’m very honoured to have been given this recognition and would like to thank all those I’ve worked with over the years for making it so enjoyable. When I think back to when I first joined Raymond Brown, the business has changed immensely and I’m extremely proud to have been a part of that transformation.”

Raymond Brown Group chairman Ron Isaac said: “Over the years Steve has played a pivotal role in the business and continues to do so in his capacity as a health and safety officer. People of Steve’s calibre, commitment and expertise are a rare breed and he has been an incredible asset to the business for all his 36 years.

“Steve’s father Gerry was an accomplished HGV driver who worked a good number of years for the company and it was inevitable that given his father’s enthusiasm for the job Steve would at some time follow his footsteps.”
